Mission, Vision, Values, and Goals

Ever since I stumbled upon the saying ‘take the risk or lose the chance’ it’s been embedded in my mind. It’s like what Jim Rohn said about life being a risky business from the moment you were born. He said “I’ll tell you how risky life is, you’re not going to get out alive.” This really got me thinking about how we face risks everyday, both big and small. In this paper I will dive into how this idea shapes my personal mission, my ambitious vision, my core values, and my strategic goals.

My mission in life, encapsulated by the question ‘Why can’t I?’, is more than just a challenge to conventional thinking; it’s a personal mantra. When someone says ‘you can’t’, they are showing you their limits, not yours. This perspective fuels my drive to explore the endless possibilities that life has to offer.

In 10 years I see myself thriving as a SAAS (Software as a Service) entrepreneur, specifically in the healthcare sector, following my graduation from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2025 and completing my MBA in 2026. My life in California, ideally here in San Diego or Orange County, will be a blend of professional success and personal fulfillment. Married for three years, my wife and I, having met during my senior year at PLNU, will be cherishing our life together. On the weekends I picture us eating brunch together enjoying our beautiful backyard with a pool. We also regularly attend a tight knit Church that we’ve grown to love. At this point in our lives we are happy, successful, and looking forward to starting a family in the near future.

I have many values that I try to uphold each day, but for the sake of this essay I will narrow it down to three. My first core value is commitment, it’s the invisible force that drives me to stay true to my goals and promises. This value isn’t just about achieving things; it’s about being someone people can rely on. When I set my mind to something, like when I decided to completely remake one of my websites called MyCanvas, I’m all in. The next one is learning, whether it's diving into the latest tech trends or understanding my clients needs for my business, I always want to be a sponge and absorb something new. Learning to me is an ongoing journey of self-improvement and broadening my horizons, both in my career and my relationships. Lastly, I think the most important value for me in my life is optimism. My optimism isn’t just about hoping for success; it’s a firm belief that it's inevitable. To me, it’s so important to have what some might call a ‘delusional’ level of positivity about the future. People will tell you over and over to ‘be realistic’ but again reiterating my point, they are showing you their limits, not yours. This approach may seem overly optimistic to some, but in my eyes, it’s the very thing that is driving me towards the future I’m creating for myself.

Goals

  1. Successfully exit my SAAS company by the age of 35.
  2. Buy an Audi RS3 by the age of 28.
  3. Regularly continue to play golf, especially as I get older.
  4. Establish a tradition for an annual abroad trip with my family.
  5. Participate more in Church through volunteering a set number of hours per month.

In this paper, I’ve explored how the daring philosophy of ‘take the risk or lose the chance’ intertwines with my life’s mission, vision, values, and goals. Just like Jim Rohn’s saying about life’s inherent risk, I’ve embraced a path of questioning limits and pursuing possibilities. My mission of ‘Why can’t I?’, my vision of being a successful SAAS entrepreneur, and values like commitment, learning, and optimism, all reflect this. My goals, ranging from a successful business exit to nurturing family traditions and community involvement, are concrete steps towards realizing my vision. So I’ll leave you with this, you can’t wait around for life to happen to you, you have to make life happen for you; either take the risk or lose the chance.
